The Junior Wing of Organization for Educational Change (OEC) took the initiative of installing bookshelves in public spots across Gilgit city. The OEC Junior Wing is a team of aspiring and dedicated high school students who volunteer to conduct community projects across Gilgit city. Their new initiative ‘Book Installation Project’ aims to promote book reading culture by bringing renowned books inexpensively and embolden people to use time in public places productively. The team endeavors to spread awareness regarding the ‘Social Corporate Responsibility’ of business owners in the region. This initiative will not only benefit the public rather it will allow the high school students to practice the concept of entrepreneurship at such a young age.
On December 20, 2020, OEC Junior Wing Team officially inaugurated the project and made the first installation at the Cherry Tree Café, Gilgit. Mr. Aziz Ali Dad, Mr. Imtiaz Ali Taj, co-founder OEC and spokesperson to Chief Minister, Mr. Daneal Karim, former president OEC, and Ms. Ghazala, Editor in Chief Educure attended the event and showed their immense appreciation towards the initiative.
Mr. Aziz Ali Dad, a well-known philosopher and intellectual of the area, shared his views regarding the project and the importance of book culture for developing societies like ours.
Mr. Imtiaz Ali Taj, spokesperson to Chief Minister Gilgit Baltistan and the co-founder of OEC, enlightened all with his thoughts on book reading in his generation and the rising need for it.
The Cherry Tree Café management also shared their various ideas in order to expand the project and reach a broader audience.
OEC Junior Wing has installed a bookshelf in The Cherry Tree Café, distinguished books on display on the shelf are available to all who visit the café. All earnings from the particular project will be used to expend the project and support the Invest in Future Leaders project of OEC.
