The alarming rate of suicides taking place in Punial has definitely raised questions in our minds that WHY? Why on earth a kid full of life wants to die? These three kids who were not even aware of what they were doing have chosen death for themselves, and a death which has many consequences for the under trauma family, for friends and society as a whole. They are destroying not just their lives but the lives of many who are associated with them, especially family. Suicide is often committed out of despair when one is sure that nothing will possibly go right in life and this is considered to be a type of mental disorder such as depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, alcoholism, or drug abuse. Stress factors often play a significant role such as financial difficulties or troubles with interpersonal relationships. Studies say that socio- economic factors such as poverty, Homelessness, unemployment and discrimination may trigger such thoughts and various studies have suggested that media is one of the factor, such glorified depictions of suicides have a negative effect on the minds of adolescents who may romanticize death. I have a kid sister and seriously speaking I am scared to death right now … I don’t want her to watch any movie or any TV serial, I don’t want her to use a cell phone but this is not the solution, this cannot be done, it’s not practical but my super protective feelings for her are making me think what should I possibly do to avoid any such incident to happen. The only thing that is in my hands right now is to counsel her, to talk to her if she has any issues regarding anything and to make her understand the consequences of any such action both socially and religiously. We cannot undo what happened earlier but we can take measures to make sure such incidents won’t happen again or at least lower the probability of such incidents. It is my humble request to all the readers out there, if you have teenage siblings or cousins or relatives or neighbors, please take out some time and talk to them; guide them because you are in a better position to understand things that they don’t. Start from your own home, ask your parents to have a check on them and their day-to-day routine.
