Mock Test for ECAT and MCAT
Organization for Educational Change through its project Summer Camp initiated an academic activity targeted for High school students. “Mock test for ECAT and MCAT” as the name suggests, was purposed to create a mock test and offer mentoring for students preparing for medical and engineering colleges during this pandemic. The project idea was pitched in the first week of June. Due to the pandemic, it did not seem possible for students to attend tuitions for the test. So, while students are preparing at home, this activity was to enable them to self-assess their preparation for the test. Benefiting from the diversity of the Summer Camp team, two groups comprising of volunteers studying in the leading medical and engineering universities of Pakistan were made available for mentoring the participants. Each group had five volunteers who prepared the test content based on the official pattern of MCAT and ECAT.
The test was available from 21st June to 26th June on the official website of OEC i.e. https://oec.org.pk. All the test guidelines and related information were communicated to the participants through emails. Almost 35 students belonging to Gilgit-Baltistan and Chitral participated in the test.
Test details for MCAT and ECAT are given below:
MCAT:
The medical test had four portions in total. i.e. Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, and Physics. It comprised 140 questions in total and students were given 160 minutes to complete the test. The test was accessible through our website https://oec.org.pk and the test URL was emailed to the participants and updated on Social Media Pages to make it easily accessible. The test result was emailed to the participant right after the completion. Out of 35 students in total 20 registered for MCAT.
ECAT:
The engineering test had four portions in total. i.e. Mathematics, Chemistry, English, and Physics. It comprised 130 questions in total and students were allowed 150 minutes to complete the test. The test was accessible through our website https://oec.org.pk and the test URL was emailed to the participants and updated on Social Media Pages to make it easily accessible. The test result was emailed to the participant right after the completion. Out of 35 students in total 20 registered for MCAT. Out of 35 students in total 15 registered for ECAT.
Both the tests were accessible through the website till 26th June. For the next round of the test i.e. mentoring, only 20 students were selected based on the hard work and dedication they showed while taking the test. Participants who scored above 45% are chosen to be mentored. The details for mentoring sessions are given below:
Mentoring sessions:
A group of 8 volunteers was selected to conduct one to one mentoring of the participants. This activity has started on 27 June and is still in progress. The primary aim of connecting participants to the mentors is to ensure that participants can clarify their queries related to the test and university admission in particular. Based on the test scores 20 out of 35 participants were selected for mentoring sessions. (8 participants for ECAT, 12 participants for MCAT)
